I believe in Ecotourism potential as a tool to preserve the Environment. After 8 years involved with the activity in Brazil, working as a specialized guide, doing research, inventories, environmental education programs, developing activities, institutions and ecotourism structures, I believe that Brazil and another countries still are inside a developing, discovering and affirmation process, talking about ecotourism.

Many things are been discussed about the real meaning of the word “eco” and if it is really present inside the tourism activity. A lot of definitions for the different kinds of visitants, what they do and how they do. It is positive to think in good examples, like Bonito and few structures in Pantanal, which are working with professionals and experts in a permanent way. This is not happening in all the areas, identified as Ecotourism in Brazil. And we all know that.

Accurate analysis about potentiality, use and support are necessary in all sectors, especially in social, conservation and economic aspects. Sometimes, though, the order in which those aspects are used seems to be inverted. Brazil and South America know about its enormous biodiversity. The tourism business presents revenues that touch more than U$4 trillion dollars per year all over the world. As the growth of the activity is intense and constant, training, prepare and monitoring are essential to keep good levels of conservation and maintenance of the natural characteristics of our country and of each area where ecotourism is growing as new and good opportunity in sustainable development.

Solutions and decisions always need professional opinions. As participant of Brazilian Club of Tourism by bike, member and founder of CBTS - Brazilian Council of Sustainable Tourism, and member of Cooperar - Ecotourism and Environmental Education Cooperative, institutions where great professionals work together, my work as a consultant follow a practical line: transparency, responsibility, professionalism and principles really sustainable.
